Next Head Coach

I was referring to Sean Allen, who would be a first time coach. BTW Georgia just hired one.

We are losing some offensive production as well going into the Big 12. We can’t do any worse in the pitching department. Our ERA’s will be much higher. Hopefully we can get a few transfers from the portal.

I’ve been holding this in forever but since we’re talking change

I just want a normal looking field. I get they were probably going for the Astrodome homage but it looks like a multi-use rec field without the infield dirt/paint. The black mound can go next.

Just copy Wichita’s because they nailed it.

I like old school as well

I would still like for them to tear down and construct a new grandstand. Maybe that can happen when the new Big12 money starts to come in.

I remember the head groundskeeper we used to have; Rodney something. Every week he’d have the grass cut with a different pattern. It always looked good.

Like the Shockers look if had to choose…

the top pic looks like couple of home games I’ve been to last few years…

I can’t believe that I don’t remember Rodney’s last name. He was also on the football team. I think he went to work for the Astros.

Rodney D. Young?

Agreed. The UH field looks funky.

I advocated for a grass field a few years ago. Apparently the school saved a lot of money by going to artificial turf. It’s a shame.

I just like dirt around the infield. I think having a turf field plays into the opponent’s hands. Especially the SS. They don’t have to adjust to our own soft patches, holes, and such. Not sure how many bases it would amount to over the course of a season but I’d suspect 10-20 or so. But I’m really speculating here. I also think dirt makes a different racket on cleat which can cause a 2B or SS to get distracted on a play at 2B.

Even Rice finally gave in last year.

While a perfectly manicured grass and dirt field can’t be topped, I don’t mind the turf at all. When done correctly (Wichita State) it looks beautiful. The UH red and black and “all grass infield” look is just funky to me.

I was told it was done , way back when, in order to host more showcase tournaments, playoff games, etc.

For those not familiar, the temps in the middle of the summer can damn near burn your feet if you are playing on it.
