Fritz is right on pace with Sampson’s first year. As long as we continue to improve throughout the season and make a jump during the offseason I will hold out hope.
Depends on where one is starting from.
Yes, and what were you expecting? This was a building overtime hire–it is what Fritz does. Do not criticize it for something it was never intended to be. If unhappy, go after the upchannels like Khator or Frititta. This is their plan or vision.
Bro whats up with the list you made at the bottom. Utah Tech played better than us against UNLV? They lost 72-14. Fresno lost 59-14. You also have SHSU, Army, and Tulane but none of those schools beat Rice by more than we did. You’ve got Arkansas St on there for ISU but they lost 52-7. You’re really taking some liberties with the phrase “played better” lmao
Even if we were in the top 3, one recruiting class does not propel a team into the top 25. They have to mature, adjust, and develop before all of that happens.
Kansas is a pitiful team. Pitiful.
Fritz lost to them by 28 points.
We have a team that is below pitiful. We have vague chances to beat Utah, Baylor, and Arizona. But don’t bet the ranch on beating any of them.
Only recruiting can improve our program.
I haven’t seen that much improvement this season. That’s what’s concerning. Still giving Coach a freebie, but still be concerned for reasons I posted earlier.
Offense has made some strides. Hopefully Chriss is good to go for Utah. I think we’ll win that one if he is. Defense let us down last week but progress isn’t always linear. Hopefully the defense has been properly humbled and has a good week of practice.
I was unable to watch the game on tv, but two of the stats really stand out: 4 interceptions and only 3.1 rushing yards per carry. 20 first downs was good but sounds like the QB can’t sustain the drives without a turnover.
TO’s are the killer, makes it nearly impossible for any chance for victory.
False. The current state of our football NIL program is barely above Hofheinz level.
But it’s not Year 3, it’s Year 1 so why are we having this discussion? The OP is delulu.
Incorrect. This is ignorant.
I gotta disagree Jo. We have the worst facilities and fan support of any program in the B12. You can still argue that that’s 3x what Sampson but the competition level Fritz has to face is probably 3x what Sampson was asked to compete against.
As for the TP comment it is true that Fritz has access to that. However, we both know that it’s easier to turnover a basketball roster than a football roster. 2-3 good players can change the fortune for a hoops program. Same isn’t true for football. People need to hang in there and at least make it through next season before making a ruling one way or another on Fritz.
Worst facilities? Not having toured all of them, I can’t say for sure (if that’s even measurable), but I kind of doubt it. Regardless, they’re in no way similar to what basketball looked like, even when compared to other schools in that conference. We wouldn’t be in the B12 now if that hadn’t changed.
Our fan engagement is pretty low, but not nearly as bad as basketball was when Sampson started. Not even close.
This attempt to compare Fritz to Sampson here just fails in every way. And the rebuilding process is so different today than back then, even if you’re talking about the same sport.
If the point is to argue that he deserves the same amount of time to get it right, that’s fine. Sampson had the team in the postseason every year after the first one, won the conference in year 5 and has kept them on top since then. He turned that around with none of the benefits that Fritz started with. If Fritz manages to match Sampson’s trajectory, that will be awesome. Next year will be crucial to get there.
Our 2025 recruiting class is not finished yet
I don’t think we’re miles behind but I’d say we’re pretty solidly the worst. And our fan support relative to our conference mates is basically on par with what we were in the American for hoops. Probably a bit worse if we’re being honest. After all in basketball we got to match up with programs like USF and Tulane who didn’t even average 2k a game. Made our 3k seem somewhat normal. In football we average 26k which is dead last. Kansas is at 30k and they used to be considered the worst of all P5 programs. Next lowest is Cincy at 37k. Everyone else is 40k+. Only P4 school below us is Duke.
The attempts to say the Fritz-Sampson comp fails, fail in every way.
That’s just false. I was at those games before Sampson showed up, and we literally knew practically everyone there. Our attendance was in the hundreds on most nights.
Measured against capacity, basketball so much worse than football that there’s literally no comparison.
Trying to claim that football was in equally or worse shape in 2023 than basketball was in 2013 just tells me that you were part of the large crowd that wasn’t there or wasn’t paying attention. Basketball was dead, and the corpse was entombed in a facility that was falling apart with no plans to change. Football won a conference championship in 2021 and a bowl game in 2022, has new facilities and was building more.
I was there at those games too. And while I agree that our announced attendance figure of 3800 was not what we had in the actual seats, the same is true for all of the bottom feeder programs. And for the record Tulane had an announced attendance of 1600. So yah… attendance when measured against our peers is worse.
You claim football won a conference chip in 2021. It did not. Basketball did win a conference championship in 2010 though. Don’t tout meaningless bowl games unless you’re going to credit all of the meaningless postseason games our hoops has played.
Sampsons postseason record his first three years was 1-5. That’s a 1-3 record in the conference tourney and 0-2 record in the NIT. That’s basically the equivalent of losing a couple low level bowls. Nothing to brag about.
Lol @ calling me one part of the group that didn’t go to basketball games. I was one of the probably 20 students from my class that actually gave a s*it about our program. Disagree with me all you want but don’t call me fair weathered lol
I’m no where near off the wagon. This is about what I expected. Next year is when my evaluating will start.
