Then turn in your college football fan badge!
I’ve told you a hundred times…I despised the post SWC BCS era…refused to watch
And this from someone who was a starter on his HS football team and loves football.
I only watched UH and our conference games and the NFL until we joined the AAC and the playoff arrived which is when i got back into the schools from other conferences
I definitely wasn’t watching a private LA school in the PAC vs a prima Donna catholic private school that refused to join a conference.
With that said, Miami vs ND and Stanford vs ND seemed like bigger rivals of the Irish…from my perspective.
For future reference.
ND’s biggest historical rivals are USC (Jeweled Shillelagh), Michigan, Michigan State (Megaphone Trophy), Pitt, Purdue (Shillelagh), and Northwestern (Shillelagh).
All have series going back a century or so. Several either are or have been trophy games.
Stanford and ND have only been playing regularly for a few decades.
Not much of a rivalry. Did you watch this year’s ND v Stanford game? Stanford’s stadium was barely half full….and it was mostly ND fans.
Not sure where you ever got the idea that that was a big rivalry.
Navy actually has the longest series with ND. However, that series is so one-sided that it hardly qualifies as a “rivalry.”
I don’t care about USC…lol
Yet strangely you imagined that they and UT were rivals.
That might be news to most fans of both schools.
Again…i went to UH during the CUSA days.
On Stanford/ND
Still don’t see how you imagined that they were a bigger ND rival than USC.
Again, turn in your fan badge.
They are no better than maybe ND’s 7th biggest rival, historically speaking.
Yeah…I’m just telling you, as a UH fan, ND vs USC had no impact on UH during the BCS era so it wasn’t on my radar and honestly…today is the first time i even hearing it was a rivalry at all.
Just being honest.
I remember the Catholics vs Convicts 30 for 30 and of course the storied Stanford/ND 100 year-long rivalry, as the article pointed out, but i have never heard of USC ND…only UT vs USC in the 2005 NC (,which i didn’t watch).
Why do you think I’d care about PAC 12 schools enough to watch their games?
Stanford and ND did play once in 1925.
But they didn’t play REGULARLY until the late 90s, and it has never meant much to the ND faithful.
They’ve only played 38 times, mostly since 1997.
Compare the length of series and number of meetings with those others I mentioned.
It ain’t close.
USC: 93 meetings going back to 1926
Michigan: 44 meetings going back to 1887.
Michigan State: 79 meetings going back to 1889.
Pitt: 74 meetings going back to 1909.
Purdue: 89 meetings going back to 1896.
NW: 49 meetings going back to 1989.
Again. I went to UH during the CUSA days when college football was boring AF. I had little to zero interest in the other P5 games.
I ONLY watched UH and CUSA games…then AAC games
It didn’t peak my interest, to really pay attention to the WHOLE sport, until they added the 4 team playoff…when WE were knocking on that door in 2015/16 and when UC broke through!
This NIL/12 team playoff era is heaven for me. So much so that I’m now watching more college games than the NFL
I am been a massive sports fan most of my life but I watch less now than at any point since I was 10yrs old. If I don’t have a rooting interest I don’t watch very much but the last couple of years I have gotten into the NHL so I will watch pieces of random games to kill time some evenings.
Well I went to UH in the SWC and CUSA days.
But I was a college football fan for decades before that.
No excuse for ANY college football fan to not know the ND v USC rivalry.
I assume you know that Michigan and Ohio State are rivals, right?
Again LAW…I’m a Houston Cougars fan.
College Football is corrupt and rigged…still is.
Only now, though, they were pressured to giving more schools a shot ON THE FIELD
Yes. OF COURSE…thats a regional Conference game that often determines the B1G championship
USC vs ND is not.
Why would i care about an OOC rivalry in a region i don’t live in???
Believe me when I say. BYU is drooling over playing Notre Dame, especially at home. BYU’s stadium is at 4649 feet elevation. It may not mean much to many of you but something happens to the visiting players from lower elevations. People (especially fast guys) start slllloooowwwwing dowwwwnnn about the middle of the 3rd quarter. And then there is the wind, cold, and snow… UH will understand soon enough.
This is great for BYU, but I still can’t stand ND
Uh, Bro.
That ND v USC. game has often had national title implications in the past.
Those two schools are both among the tops in national titles and are literally the top two in Heisman Trophy winners.
Again, where have you been?
It’s literally the ONLY major “intersectional” college football rivalry of any real consequence.
Turn in your fan badge.
Michigan v Ohio State and Army v Navy are quite possibly the only bigger rivalries in college football.
Great news for BYU though. Perhaps ND v BYU can replace ND v USC….with a religious theme to boot!
Cullen,

USC has the media covering them in full spin mode they are saying they agreed to play in November next year but pulled out becuse of the ND’S agreement to be guarenteed a spot in the CFP if they are ranked in the top 12.
Sorry…im a Cougar fan…not a USC or ND fan
