Prayers to our armed forces, allies and the ones that helped us

Our allies are trying to get a “safe zone” established with the U.N. Obviously this is a long shot especially with the U.N.

Praying that this happens. Per different reports there are over 70k “registered” Afghanis that helped us in the last 20 years still stranded. They are countless American citizens being blocked by the taliban from exiting. This safe zone would be of major help if and only if the taliban agree.

POLITICO is now reporting the following:
The taliban told our state department that they did not need Kabul. We responded that we only needed the airport…

I just saw this.

Pretty bad look for the Chain of Command. Apparently, we knew the gate was vulnerable, but didn’t close it.

Because all he wants to do is raise right wingnut talking points, and the hurricane doesn’t give him anything to use in that endeavor.

Oh, the feigned righteous indignation of hypocritical tea party trumpists!

I saw it too. It is incomprehensible that these intelligence failures are ongoing.
Just heard the following:
The so called drone attack that we did against isis k ended up to have killed the wrong target. The killed were a family of an Afghan interpreter that worked for us.
We have to extend this deadline we have no choice. We were told that at least no Americans would be left behind now the state department is saying that they won’t be able to get every U.S. citizen.
You betcha I am going to keep praying for the ones left behind. As the taliban go door to door they need us even more.

Anyone that defends any of this, might not be the right wingnut but they are probably the left wing nut or possibly the tool in the middle.

This couldn’t be more screwed up if we held a contest for “how screwed up can you make the world”.

A guy got competent advice, he chose to follow his own gut instincts because he has a history of doing that. Said guy F’d up and people are dead and bad guys now have our weapons and are in charge…sorta.

Leon Panetta is right.

No Stinger missiles, of course, and the airframes won’t be operational for long without maintenance and repair parts, but there’s no doubt about one thing: the Taliban are now easily the best armed and equipped “jihadist” force in the world today. See here.

Not much you can do about it when you’re nation building including an army. I mean sure it turns out we should’ve just given then sticks and pats on the back. But that probably would’ve been friended upon at the time.

The thing that is most depressing to me is that I actually coordinated the fielding of M16 rifles and other equipment to the Afghan Army and Afghan police that we mentored in Eastern Afghanistan back in 2011.

That stuff is all probably in the hands of jihadists today…jihadists who will undoubtedly do bad things with it. It sucks to think about that.

Hell, for all we know, some of that stuff could end up in the hands of other jihadist groups who might use it to commit terrorism abroad…even against the USA and its allies. Thinking about that is even suckier.

For what it’s worth, our last military flight reportedly has departed.

That said, I am still worried about local allies that may have been left behind, and their families. I fear for their lives and safety.

The Pentagon is openly saying that hundreds of Americans will be left behind. A bus full of U.S. CITIZENS was not allowed entry into the airport.
How dare you general mckenzie praising the taliban and blinken sec of state telling us we can trust the taliban when they are going door to door killing innocent Afghanis.
I will add that this coward blinken not taking questions illustrates all too clearly of his/their ineptitude.
Prayers to all left behind.

Prayers to our neighbors to the East of us. #Louisiana

Why is the Taliban allowed to have a Twitter account?

That would be a whole different can of worms to open up. We probably need a new thread to get into trouble about for that one.

Countless numbers of American citizens left behind. Just in the last few days a bus full of Americans was trying to get to the airport but were turned away.
Not knowing how many Americans are left behind is one thing. Not making sure they have access to be able to leave is another. For weeks we have been told that if Americans wanted to leave they could. Just yesterday this is what we were being told. This is another lie. This is lies after lies.
It is unfathomable that mckenzie, miley, blinken have not been fired already. They have blood on their hands. They betrayed and are betraying our country and our allies. Americans and allies demand it.
What is happening now?
Retired armed forces are going to Afghanistan and try to rescue stranded Americans and Afghanis friends. All of this takes money, huge money. The bezos, tim cook, gates, facebook & tweeter heads and others should contribute to such evacuation. These missions are for the greater good and ought to be viewed as such since we did not do what we promised to do.
I have no faith in the U.N. but if France and Britain can “broker” a deal to help evacuation of the stranded this will be a plus. This will be a sign of how far the terrorist taliban are willing to go.
Praying that this happen.

Not sure about citizens, but I can assert that one Afghan-American legal immigrant with a green card (the Mother of one of my Dari language instructors) that I know of was indeed left behind, despite being at the gate for days. I’m pretty sure that at least one of my local national interpreters is still there as well, though I haven’t dared to text him for a few days for fear that it’ll expose him to the Taliban.

As for these “retired armed forces” going to Afghanistan, as I’ve said before, try not to sing their praises. Most of them work for private military companies and are in it chiefly for the money. They are more or less hired guns or mercenaries. Many actually aren’t retired, just former military or police, if even that.

In a way it’s good that they are trying to help, but it’s important that you understand the WHOLE story, not merely a narrative that you like.

I get it uhlaw97 but this is the reality of what these military leaders CREATED. None of this had to happen. There are now over 200 deaths, including 13 American citizens (that we know of)
The stark reality is that we had and still have the means to make sure they are all out. The fact is our leaders do not see it that way and are leaving behind hundreds if not thousands of Americans, green card holders and Afghanis friends behind. The fact that we gave the talibans intel and biometrics of Americans and Afghanis friends is disastrous. The talibans are going door to door and either hang or torture these Afghanis with the help of our data. This is the worst possible outcome that we could have imagined. The media is going to “bury” this story and report on something else. We can’t forget what we left behind. I mentioned it yesterday. We left $85B’s + worth of equipment. You mentioned with great details. This same equipment has to be either returned or destroyed. What kind of leader lives this behind? This is absolutely unreal. The equivalent is us or every U.S. citizens giving a $250 check to the terrorist taliban. miley, mckenzie should be court martialed and blinken should resign immediately. biden should come out today and mentioned that we did make mistakes, accepted resignation and we are working on correcting these mistakes. That is the best that he should say today. Will he? I am praying that he does. This will be a major step in the right direction…

Your concerns are valid, and I share many of them. However, I think that our POLITICAL leaders created this more so than our military leaders did.

In the end, we have civilian control of our military, and the ultimate responsibility for the success or failure of any military mission lies there.

In our civilian controlled military…the buck stops with the elected powers that be.

miley, mckenzie, austin III knew this so called plan was not viable. They had to know for months. They should have spoken up or resigned. They did neither. They are a national disgrace. My father in law (Colonel) resigned because he did not think the orders given to him were viable, ethical and put our armed forces at idiotic risks. Sounds similar?
The vast majority, most of the military leaders are great leaders. The politician military leaders are THE problem. These still have not resigned. That is a national disgrace. Lord have mercy.

Good luck getting them to resign. Not likely. I’d take it up with the civilian superiors that gave them the order or plan.

Austin is one of their CIVILIAN superiors, I should point out.

As for Milley, the Chiefs of Staff are really just ADVISORS to the POTUS. He can either take or ignore their advice as he sees fit.
Orders go from the President to the Secretary of Defense to the Combatant Commanders (CENTCOM, etc) for execution, in other words, Biden to Austin (both civilians) to McKenzie (first uniformed guy in line).
