Regents Approve Football Ops Bldg

Well, first thanks for posting. Second, I’m into this look, and will be disappointed slightly if undergoes a less aesthetically pleasing change. But , needs out does a want. I’m thinking you show the best possible photos before the blind date, to keep interest ( and contributions) flowing.

Ya, that’s what the design phase is for. These were just conceptual renderings depicting where it will be and the general footprint of the building (along with maybe the material used and general building shape), also just like @NRGcoog said it’s marketing for donor interest. Whether it will look like this, close to it, or something totally different it is up to the architects and engineers deployed to the project and major donor input. For all we know it could stay the same just like the quads/law building, or have a large change in the design phase like the medical school.

Now speaking of the medical school I don’t remember hearing anywhere it was a “budget blunder”, it just had a different design chosen for the main building. Although the new design was just meh compared to the old one. The main difference between the new and the old design was less glass, 1 story shorter, a much wider floorplan (like way wider), and more liberal use of stone and brick. Also, iirc the $80 million budget for that building was not squandered or misused. Imo what we got for the medical school is still pretty damn good.

Anyone know when it’s supposed to be finished? I didn’t understand the tweet that said it’s supposed to take 30 months, but we expect it to be down by 2024???

Documentation at the meeting says Winter 2024. Don’t know the actual date though, might be a mistake in reporting?

From now until Winter of '24 is roughly 30 months so I think it’s just an error in phrasing/miswording.

Makes perfect sense. I was like man they really need 30 months to put together a building?:joy:

Did Pez say anything about adding sports?

If we’re anticipating higher fees to pay for this new facility, we aren’t adding sports.

No Pez did not. It’s a wish list dream of some posters on this board but it’s not going to happen because we do not have the money to add additional sports.

Additional sports is the last thing on the administration’s mind.

Prob leave it up to club sports to add beach vb on their own if someone presents it to them.

Why would you think that?

There was some mention in the past that endowing scholarships and coaching positions was next after the Football Ops building was funded.

After the ops building is built, they’re planning on renovating the AAC building for Olympic sports and that’s going to be a lot of money.

Makes sense. That will kick the Olympic Sports up a notch.

Mens soccer & triathlon additions.

Sam Khan in the Athletic today:
Donors have pledged @ 1/3 of the cost and they are looking for a lead donor for naming rights. Its part of the article “With move to Big 12 on the horizon, Houston taking necessary steps to ensure long-term success”

So are they still planning to start the build and finish by 2024 or do they wait for more money?

So Fertitta getting us The Fertitta Football operations building next to The Fertitta TDECU stadium. Like The Oregon Nike Donor.

Thay are seeking a business or someone for naming rights for the football ops building. More than likely it will be a business where their name can be visible from within the stadium bowl and maybe along Scott street.

Joes crabshack football ops building. Excuse the shrimp smell
