Road environment

And we only had 1 TD drive…

As someone who was at the game. Row 44, west side, 30 yard line, the stadium was one of the loudest stadiums I have been in, and I have watched the Cougars since 1967.
With that said, the Utah fans could not have been nicer. With the temperature cold, I had a sweatshirt on with “Houston” in red, all across the front. Utah has greeters outside of every stadium entrance, that look for visitors and welcome them to the stadium. I had fans make a special effort to greet me in the stands and welcome me to the stadium. Not one person said anything or did anything against me or UH.
During the game, they did have a person who helped ask the crowd to make noise, when it was appropriate. This is something UH may wish to copy. They also had someone who hushed the crowd, when Utah was on offense.
The trains running from the stadium to downtown were great in getting people into and out of the stadium. No cost. Free. Literally, thousands of people take the train to the game, and skip the parking. At the end of the game, they had extra-long trains waiting, to take fans back downtown. Their tailgating area was completely filled, with fans and vehicles.
I just wished the Utah crowd could have seen Overmyer the entire game, and Conner at 100%.

Sounds like we should be taking notes.

Then what’s the point of this thread-road environment. Thanks for the enlightenment of me as I now know that no road environment, hostile opponent crowd, environmental conditons, etc.etc. will ever have an impact on the coogs and how they play.

Thank you for posting. Did you get the chance to meet with our team after the game? It is always awesome to thank our guys for being part of the UH legacy. Surely our A.D. was at the game. I am always interested by the game day atmosphere before, during and after the game. We have to bring an amazing experience to our alums, fans and casual fans that make the effort to come to TDECU. We have to be relentless to get as many fans in. Every comment, experience like yours is invaluable.
The utes fans showed their pride. You could sense it every time the camera was showing the fans, crowd.

Our team was ready to play in a hostile environment. Just got outplayed. It happens.

I went to the Utah and BYU games in the 90s when they came here to play Rice. Met their fans in the stands and they were all nice. Texas fans are the worst. They are relentlessly obnoxious, they cant help themselves. In 1988, they were no trouble at all. Coach Pardee’s Coogs beat the daylights out of them from the first minute. That tends to shut up an obnoxious crowd.

I went to A&M in 89 and the game this past weekend. It’s been a few years. but A&m was more intimidating as a visiting fan, but Itah seemed really loud and maybe more passionate as a home crowd. Maybe its recency bias, but I was impressed. I went to Alabama at South Carolina last year, which might have been loider, but not by much!

The charming and vivacious Ms Ziggy and I went to the Utah game. The only game I have attended that may have been as loud was UH v OU in Reliant. Their fans are knowledgeable and effective. When it was time for them to raise hell they did it.

Well, we can’t do trains for the majority of the stadium, with the trains limited in town but shuttles might work.

Which is what I have been saying is the difference with Houston sports fans. They’re causal watchers at the stadium/ arena.

Really true. If we could do 40k with some standing room , it’s all you need. There’s a theory in business of marginal economics where incremental increases don’t add much gain after a certain point.

Robertson was loud as all get out. The key is fill that bad boy up regardless of size. My office would be louder that Memorial Stadium if you had the mail room and sanitation screaming in one office

UT in 1976 was a madhouse. Until about the end of the 1st quarter.

I was there in 1976.

Had their Stadium to ourselves in 4th quarter.

Is the offense getting predictable. On third and short with Overmeyer in motion I even knew that play, surely they had tape on it and were ready for Overmeyer to catch it short. I just hope he is okay. Not kicking the FG on fourth and goal, hurt. Not protecting CW from constant blitzes hurt the fourth quarter. We moved the ball, and gave the D plenty of rest, just could not stop Dampier. He was like a bigger Greg Ward.

We stopped them 2 times in the 4th quarter and gave the ball back to our offense in a 1 point game…and we couldnt do anything on offense. Losing Overmyer hurt us bad…you to have to deal with injuries sometimes…Their defense was just better than us. Quit acting like were favorites and just couldnt win…We were 7 point underdogs playing in a tough road environment, and lost a tough game we were in until the final minutes when they stopped us one last time.

I saw more grown ass adults puking in trash cans at the Utah game than I have ever seen. It was somewhat disturbing…

I was 6 but our entire family went. One of my first memories. Was amazing to see thousands of Coogs across the way in the upper deck across from us. Had to have been 20k Coogs there!
