SMU didn’t deserve a playoff spot!

Well at least they made a NY6/CFP before Tech did lol

They are the only P4 school left in Texas to never make a BCS, NY6, or CFP.

And so far TCU, SMU and TU have all made it to the CFP before Texas 8&4…oh please let us make it too :grinning:

BYU only had 2 and BEAT SMU…

byu did not make the final of our conference.

Or his mom’s and he’s Steve McNair :joy:

Which tells you just how UNdeserving SMU was.

UH: 2015 NY6 Peach Bowl win

Baylor: 2021 NY6 Sugar Bowl win

UT: 2018 NY6 Sugar Bowl win and 2024 CFP win

TCU: 2014 NY6 Peach Bowl win and 2022 CFP win

A&M: 2020 NY6 Orange Bowl win

SMU: 2024 CFP appearance

Taco Tech: error

Tech made the Cotton Bowl in 05 and 08. So they have at least made a major bowl though I think they’ve never won one.

Many teams played that weren’t in a conf championship…

The Cotton bowl was not the original 4 BCS bowls though in the 2000s.
It was designated as an NY6 in 2014 along with the Peach Bowl.

Ahh gotcha. I guess the BCS era is already fading from my memory  lol

And even so…I think that it is correct to say that Tech has never WON a major bowl game.

Among TX P4s…they are probably the only one, right?

This entire thread is about an outcome. It happened. You can try to explain, debate, make your point smu made it.
IMO the only way to satisfy everyone…including uhlaw is to have the following:
16 teams cfp. 10 DIV 1 conference winners, one independent if its ranking is in the top 16 with five or six at large teams. You don’t agree? Then have the feds tell these non power conferences that they need to disband or organize their own league. It won’t happen and should never happen.
Enough of some of the bs explanations that I have read for years. We are just a few seasons removed from playing in the aac. Does not anybody on Coogfans remember about how the cartel treated us?
A 16 teams playoff with the above would satisfy the entire country not just a handful of prima donnas. Now get on with it cfp if you have any cojones.

The shine is going to wear off the SEC and their middling teams once there exposed by the CFP

Give me a break!! Indiana and SMU played a whole season of Kansas or worse and got bids…10-2 BYU and 10-2 Iowa State played tougher schedules… BYU BEAT SMU on the road in a non conference game…I promise you BYU wouldve played Penn State a way tougher game than SMU did. Our league is a tougher league than ACC…ESPN just continues to fawn over ACC and its teams…Its their damn “pet” league…

They love Clemson more than any other team. That’s why they were included. No way a team with 3 losses should make the playoffs.

People can complain all they want about SMU’s inclusion but the one team that should’ve been excluded was Clemson. They lost by 31 points, 31, to Georgia, South Carolina and also Louisville 33-2 AT HOME, the same team SMU beat on the road.

Well, I got that, but I figured that every P4 champ deserved a shot.

An ACC non-champ with NO impressive wins like SMU, OTOH…no way.

Yep, that is true that Tech has never won a major bowl game now that I researched it.

I typically start with the BCS era as the bowl system was a mess before the BCS was implemented in the 1990s.

How do you know Monte?
The smu qb could not handle the pressure very much like the Washington qb did in the last cfp final. Your qb crumbles under pressure? I don’t care who you are you will get beat. psu is not that good and smu is far from being that bad. Their record speak for itself just like the Huskies last season.
Yes bad qb play will cost you a game. That is a given friends. Yes I still can’t stand smu.

Now that it actually matters, the polls need to start making more sense. Stop elevating teams for beat softies, adjust the meaning of other wins and losses later in the season and stop moving teams up narrowly escaping bad losses.
SMU should have been penalized by the playoffs committee for losing their lone non conference game of note, not playing any of the top teams in their conference and then losing to the one they did play regardless of it being a conference championship game.
