SMU in ACC

Happy for SMU. Glad to see that all SWC teams now have found a home in P4!!

Media deals are not the majority of any teams income anyway so not worried about SMU. They are still way ahead of being in the AAC,

um
 Rice???

Well now we can play smu as our p5 now and then and reduce travel if we both agree to play.

I do not want to ever see SMU again. Why do you guys hang onto that?

I don’t either but I could see Pez doing it bc easy travel but yeah, smu is irritating with their song they sing over and over.

Turnout was rather sparse for the SMU 2 ACC party.

Subtract AAC exit fee.

As I remember it. No party on announce day.
Sept 10, 21 was still Covid issues.

Too early in the morning for the students and alums.

BYU is not a P5; in fact it was never a P5 in its history. If it’s a P5, then so is Cincinnati; it was in the Big East for 9 seasons and made it to two BCS bowls games.

Students had left campus early so they could hit the Yacht Club on Lake Ray Hubbard before the riff-raft started flowing in!!

How many did we have for our Big 12 party?

Perhaps SMU’s calculation is that the ACC dynamics will change before the 9 years is up and SMU will be able to negotiate part of a media deal. Nine years is a long time, especially since Clemson and Florida St. want out at the first opportunity.

They’re still making more than they would in the AAC and they get more exposure playing “better” teams. It’s an investment that doesn’t cost them that much really. But if you compare to what their peers will make, yeah it looks like a crappy deal. It’s all relative.

Now can we stop talking about these jabronis? We’ve wasted way too many posts on a Coogs message board

Exposure sure.

Not sure they’re making more once you take out the AAC exit fees, but I’ll take your word for it.

Doesn’t look good on the outsude, but considering their options, SMU hit a grand slam/ connected on a hail mary/ hit a buzzer beater to find a path into a P4.

No brainer they take this deal.

Playing the likes of Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, Miami, Virginia
is easily bigger brands than anyone in the Big 12.

For how long
it doesn’t matter
they found a way IN.

Well done, SMU!

Well it was worth the gamble because even losing the gamble is probably better than not doing it. Even if the ACC disintegrates in 2035-36 or before (and i think it will) who knows if they could position themselves for either Big 12 expansion, or trying to keep the damaged ACC alive. It would seem that even if the ACC is damaged it is still a step above the AAC. I still would be stunned if the ACC isnt gutted by 2035-36, but the gamble only seems to have upside and at worst would still leave them relatively speaking, in no worse shape than they are now.

And once those brands leave (which is inevitable) and the ACC disintegrates, they’ll be the next Wazzu.

I hope they enjoy being a P4 prostitute for a few years though.

Not sure that’s something worthy of congratulations, but to each his own.

Some schools truly have no dignity!

The Big 12 will have way better options available than SMU when the ACC disintegrates.

Are you sure about that?

Oregon State
Washington State
University of Southern Florida
Temple
UConn

(Schools that’s lost P5 status/future P5 status not in view)

We are going to P2, P3 if we are lucky. SEC & BIG will take the largest brands and the rest will fade into G8 oblivion, again. SMU will not be one of those brands. If the B12 is fortunate enough to stay a power conference after the next round of realignment, maybe they get a shot at the B12 once any household name is taken by the other 2.
