Pezman told them to include it. He said Houston had a 20 k soccer stadium & a 79k stadium, so UH could be a 40k which would be valuable. Mack et al didn’t listen
It is unfortunate but again we got a jem for pennies. I can’t think of another U.S. stadium that has cost less and looks this good. Regarding soccer dimensions it could have worked if planned accordingly. Right now we would need a minimum of a 25/35’ width increase. That would mean to redesign the entire first level. It would also mean a brand new grass field with proper drainage and irrigation.
It won’t.
Back in the day my Frat brothers would catch you on the way to class and throw you in the fountain if you got engaged. They would let you take your wallet out before giving you the old “Heave Ho”. Nice guys .
Go COOGS !
Probably why nobody gets married anymore… ![]()
Where are the palm trees?
Yeah we did get a cheap stadium cost wise that looks great. Wondering how much it would be today $400 mil? So glad we got the fb and bb and this fb add on done before the nil mess bc Tillman mentioned he’d rather we spend on nil vs facilities so our timing worked out great for a change. I think south fla is getting a 30k for 350 mil or something like that. Costs have gone way up and I doubt we would be willing to spend 400 mil . We’d be forced to nrg it knowing us.
USF actually broke ground three months ago.
Also aren’t they building another student dorm of 1100 or so close to the stadium ? Pop on campus would be over 9k by 2027 along with the 3k slightly off campus.
We’re trending towards a more traditional campus
It’s the Queenie O’Roark party plaza with concessions, restrooms and seating up to 300 I believe
Im ok with the non-symetrical aspect. Here and in general. Subtle or overt.
I will say that for the uh north endzone in question…it appears like it is close to being symmetrical (or was trying to be) but slightly missed achieving it. I suspect that is why it might stand out as less than ideal to some people. That and since it is in the endzone where conventionally, many stadiums do aim for and achieve symmetry.
I think if non symmetry is being deliberate and fully embraced, it could manifest itself in a much bolder, more deliberate way. (Not subtle).
I like the stadium as-is. It’s nice. Just suggesting the almost-symmetry can appear off to some.
When did we add a north end zone? ![]()
Well, i assumed the big new scoreboard is north (or close). Or more northerly than the other endzone.
I’ve only seen the stadium twice so maybe i assumed wrong. Set me straight.
Nah. The scoreboard is in the west end zone and gives us some shade in the late afternoon. ![]()
Robertson was kind of N-S, but it had symmetry and palm trees.
Speaking of, I didn’t care about this at all when the stadium was being built, but orienting it East/West really did turn out to be a relatively large blunder. And it’s not possible to correct. Still not the end of the world, but probably the worst thing about the stadium.
North side seats are brutal for day games
It’s a uniquely unpleasant experience, for sure.
I’ve sat in a bunch of hot stadia - none of them have cooked me like those north side seats. It’s especially nice when the seats are preheated to approximately 350 before you ever sit down. Good times.
But it’s still not as hot as cleaning the inside of a grain bin in the summer, so it could be worse.
I have seats in the lower bowl on the north side and it is rough on a hot day game. But I agree with someone who talked about the soccer stadium. That stadium is much worse.
About 30% of nfl stadium have an East West orientation. Now this:
So as you can see the East West orientation was not selected by random but through an in depth study.
Our stadium is situated east west. Our endzones are east and west, our stands are north and south. The big scoreboard is in the west endzone.
