All UH system school ought to be 100% UH. This should have been done from the beginning. Can you all imagine what it could be bring to everyone?
University of Arizona and Arizona State University have multiple satellite campuses.

I never understood why UH-Downtown decided they need a separate mascot. They are the gators. I know they operate separately. I guess its similar to UTSA being the roadrunners.

I never understood why they operate differently. Renu should this immediately. Times have changed
It is time.

Lol, l was waiting for someone to bring up UT Austin and you fell for it. Austin was a small college town where UT ruled for 100 years. With oil money and being the flagship university in Texas, UT was not going to be denied being a top university.

Austin boomed to a major city only for the last 20 years, but UT had already embedded itself for years as a major university in athletics and nothing was going to reverse its arrogant fan support.

It would be like dropping Bama in the middle of Houston. The money, the fan support and prestige football program would not fall off just because Bama is now located in a major city.

Not an either or
actually UH is ripping off it’s customers because we are CHARGING Traditional University rates but are NOT providing Traditional University amenities that have Lifelong dividends.

That’s why the majority of our alums NEVER set foot in campus again after graduating. They never felt a true connection to support their alma mater
they never were given thr opportunity to build a life long network.

IF you think a school’s ONLY purpose is to educate than you fall into the blind worker bee category because there is SO MUCH more to gain.

UH alums just have no frame of reference so they defend the ho hum status quo.

Actually, adding more Traditional elements will HELP us earn AAU status and IMPROVE our academic reputation

UH Downtown is a separate university in the University of Houston System. Just like UTSA is a seperate school from UT in the UT system.

My brother in law is going through the college process and got acceptance into atm and UH. I obviously want him to succeed but i have noticed the differences in both.

Atm gave him admission into all their other colleges within the same major. And UH gave him admission to his college on main campus.

That speaks volumes of the efficiency of the university into keeping them.

Its still amateur hour here.

Mostly because when we bought them (after they were originally South Texas Junior College) we had to assure both their and our faculty and students that we weren’t just swallowing them whole. There’s a good thread about it on the Classic Stories board.

If I could, I would. Bad hips.

When UH the land that became UH’s main campus was donated by J. J. Settegast and Ben Taub in 1936, the surrounding area was still semi-rural and then, in the midst of the Great Depression, the land was cheap.

I wish that you would find another board to bash their reputation. Bibbidy, Bobbity, Boo. Be gone with your negative attitude always putting down the University. Your miserable dude and this crowd is tired of it. It’s getting old a long time ago. You’re a fantastic troll. Move on to another board please. I’m sorry you hate UofH bc we are not traditional U, and I’m sorry no frat wanted to be your friend. I happen to be proud of all we have accomplished. Your words about UofH are a plague. Go away.

Go Coogs!

That is the hallmark of a traditional school, most schools mandate Freshman live on campus, no if , ands or buts. That ties freshman to the schools and to other freshman, it is HUGE. They get plugged in to campus life and organizations and is the starting point for all things positive to come, mainly, a supportive alumni.

(on a side note, it looks like about 6 weeks from wrapping up end zone facility)

I like his comments. I conclude that he cares about the school and wants to provide a rich campus experience to all students. That experience can be enhanced by participating in the Greek System but I have seen no evidence that he wants to make that mandatory. I don’t understand why we should not give our students the same breath of opportunities that they might enjoy elsewhere. Maybe you need to be put in timeout.

You must hate Renu Khator because she’s the biggest Traditional University pumper we’ve ever seen

So much so, she got into a feud with the now Mayor over her passion in making UH a Traditional University. I huge political risk on her end

I’ll stand behind our esteemed Chancellor.

You can stand behind people who think “You are” is spelled “Your”.

yes, our commuter students are charged Traditional student rates.

Remember, the big push back?

I was involved when we got the votes for the Rec Center
and YES the commuter schools threw a fit about that.
The truth is the old gym at Garrison was literally a converted shower space
the ab area was literally in that space. I know
I lived it while others commuted away from campus.

Nothing screams TIER ONE than inferior amenities for the students that DO CHOOSE to live on campus so YES I will fight for their presence on campus.

We upgraded those facilities and have continued to make progress but NO our fight isn’t over
and it seems like our biggest opponents is UH alums with that old Cougar High mentality deep in their brain.

What will help UH is 3rd Ward/Scott Street continuing to gentrify and become its own version (or extension) of EaDo.

I graduated in 2019, and we always had to drive to 8th wonder or EaDo to grab a drink/hang out in an area with things to do

Went down Scott st to the Shipleys for the first in years
 it is changing rapidly.
