You can still have both ! Dedicate a camera on top of the new facility facing downtown and project image on huge new scoreboard during TV breaks !
Have you been to Paris?
Their skyline in pretty impressive and is growing. Itâs actually a new part of Paris
London is unique in that clusters of skyscrapers have popped up around the pre-skyscraper city.
Iâve walked both cities extensively and both âskylinesâ are more connected to their city than Houstonâs skyline to its city.
Neither are âworld classâ which is what the OP argued.
I like that!
I have been to both London and Paris and they do an excellent job of blending their old buildings that have stood since the 1600s with the modern day towers.
Totally agree. Lived in London for years. What an uninformed statement from op. Almost a wow, I canât believe it was stated. Itâs okay to be proud, but really?
I think that almost bullet shaped building in London is the coolest looking ever.
Known as the egg!
âŠand London has some equally creative skyscrapers in the works.
Paris skyline is epic, also:
I know itâs a basic rendering, but the facade facing Scott St looks really bland for whatâs supposed to be the âpremiumâ option.
Weâll have arrived if we can ever move the press box to the other side of the stadium and convert the current press box to suitesâŠ
Originally projected to cost $75 million, the board approved the projects for a total of $140 million during its meeting on May 18. That includes construction costs of $118.3 million, architecture and engineering fees of $11.5 million, and furniture costs of $5 million, according to documents presented at the meeting.
Raymond Bartlett, senior vice chancellor for administration and finance, told the Finance and Administration Committee that itâs best to think of the plan as two separate projects. The first â the new Football Operations Center â will cost about $90 million. The 105,000-square-foot facility on the west side of TDECU Stadium will house the universityâs football operations, including the teamâs training space, locker room, health and nutrition space, and staff offices.
The project will also connect the facility to TDECU Stadium at the west end zone.
The second project â renovations to TDECU Stadium â will cost around $50 million, Bartlett said. The renovations include a new scoreboard, which will be larger and have higher resolution, making it more in line with the scoreboards at other Big 12 Conference football stadiums, he said. The project will also construct new premium seating, including 14 suites, 392 club seats and a party deck that will have 294 ledge seats.
Chris Pezman, UHâs vice president for athletics, told the committee that the university has seen a significant increase in demand for premium seating at the stadium. When the Big 12 football schedule was released earlier this spring, the waitlist for premium seating jumped from about 50 accounts to 750 accounts, he said. Additionally, the 10 new suites for this season were all sold.
The stadium renovations are expected to generate revenue, Pezman added. He expects revenue from the renovations to exceed $90 million over the term of the project.
The projects were originally proposed to be completed in the winter of 2024. Now, construction is expected to start this winter with the projects expected to be completed in the summer of 2025, according to documents presented at the meeting.
Thatâs the type of expansion I have been wanting.
And the great thing is we have a demand for suites and we can build a 2nd to none state-of-the-art press facility. Doing that will also help the stadium look more imposing.
I have never seen a stadium with the press box on the visitorâs side. They always have their backs to the sun and I donât see that changing.
So this will all be ready for the '25 season.
Peanut Gallery: Just in time to lure a new coach...
Who said that?
Yes, I seriously doubt that weâre ever going to move the press box to the visitors side of the stadium.
IIRC, the original TDECU Stadium design & construction plans may have been future proofed to be able to remove the north side 2nd level seating and add a row of suites on the visitor side as well (somewhat similar to the home side) and then to reconstruct an upper deck similar to the south side of the stadium.
OK, so I may be misremembering and the future north side design upgrades may have just been to be able to add additional food service and restrooms on the 2nd level.
I get a kick out of the luxurious boxes. The whole astrodome was a luxury box, especially that purple section.
The original plan called for future expansion to move the press boxes above the 3rd level on the north side while converting the current press boxes into suites.
Did Pez show pictures of the new escalators for upper deck South side fans ??
That would benefit more people than all this other crap combinedâŠ. And cost a hell of a lot less !!
Guess it was an over site on his part !
Sometimes I get the impression they are just winging it instead of master planning it based on a methodical phase schedule.
-Design and build a value stadium with low cost/unfinished exterior/ interior materials/finishes (I understand why) but make the skyline a main feature
-Vague expansion of seats released
-Cover up that view with another value Indoor Facility that completely covers the skyline view
-Never thought about tailgating areas and how to integrate that into the master plan
-Never designed infrastructure for future canopies/ bathrooms, etc.
-Design at least 2 different stadium renovations to connect to the football facility
There are still a number of things that will have to be added to this stadium AS WE GET MORE $$âŠits going to be an ongoing construction project. Look at any of the stadiums 50+ years. they are constantly improving the stadium.
Things that will be improved EVENTUALLY
-More/improved finishes inside the stadium
-Restroom additions
-Escalators
-Canopies
-Replace the skin of the building with a higher quality/ more durable exterior material. Mesh is not a long life type of product and is nowhere as stately as brick/stone or a material like that.
-Designated permanent Tailgate areas.
What else should be on the âimprove over timeâ list?
Looks like the athletic department is catering to future suite members or high level donors.
