Agree 100%. I get it, beggars can’t be choosers yadda yadda and I guess we’re geographically closer. But I just wish it was another TX team instead.

Most UH graduates don’t care about UH athletics. No matter who the big 12 designates as our rival. Houston fans need to show up for their team. Not for the opponent. This has always been a UH issue.

If the conference commissioners cannot recall your school’s name , then you are not actively relevant in conference discussions.

Texas Tech- I get.
We’ve been in THREE straight conferences with Cincinnati and UCF (CUSA + AAC + Big 12)…i definitely feel a strong bond with them also.

We’ve been in the game conference but never really annual opponents which to me has made it hard to build a relationship. We may not have played the Texas schools as much but in those cases I at least know people who went there or otherwise root for them.

Yes. And the same 25,000 people will come to watch UCF. There’s nothing wrong with them but sports fans in Texas want to see teams from around here. I admire UCF. But they’ll never be my rival.

As a lifetime Coog ('62) who moved to FL last year, I’m delighted to see UCF as our “rival”. I’ve kept season tickets just to watch us beat old SWC teams in Houston, but I’ve been to a couple of our games in FL and they have an outstanding fan base and game day atmosphere.

That’s the problem. People don’t need to come to watch ucf. They need to come for the coogs!!! Opponents shouldn’t matter. It’s all about our dudes in red n white. Occasionally in alt uniforms!

I understand. From a motivation standpoint we’re in agreement. I’m referring to the reality of playing UCF. They just don’t bring in the casual fan in Texas, unless they’re top ten.

We have little history v the gators. Only a handful of game. But if they came to tdecu I bet that Florida school would put butts in the seats.
And it’s a rival? Short answer - NO.
We’ve dominated Florida State (13-2-2) in the past, rival - NO.

Not a rival. But the point is that our fan base needs to support our team. Regardless of our opponent. Period. Clearly the narrative is “omg ucf is our rival?!? Oh no” we have a seat at the big boys table after years of gripping. Let’s show up for the coogs !
