yes we are and they were accepted. We are playing the Texas schools every year when league is at 12.
I how youâre right but donât think you are. I think Texas teams (some, maybe all) will rotate at being the two we donât play.
I think the prevailing attitude is that Oklahoma State is with the SWC schools now and not the Big 8 schools. They consider their rivals to be the Big 12 South teams (and TCU).
Making a demand requires leverage. We had none. If theyâd said ânoâ what were we going to do?
Iâm pretty sure we didnât have enough leverage to demand anything.
Just keep building our program and fanbase
but they DIDNT say no, so stop acting like they didâŠFeel free to talk to Pez about it, because thats how i knowâŠWe will play 9 conference games out of 11 teamsâŠIt is easy for the league to make sure we play the Texas schools. They WANT to play us, because they want to beat usâŠWe better be readyâŠ
I love it. Someone call UCF and start the pissing contest.
And can we find out all the UH alums who were associated with the NASA projects? I hate it when Tech starts their crap that Rice was the local Uni that participated.
Pez had NOTHING to do with the negotiations with the Big 12 on our invitation.
That was all Tilman and Dr. Khator and they didnât even have leverage to âdemandâ who we playâŠ
On you saying Pez âtold you how it was going to beâ, he can only give his opinion but the Conference will ultimately decide what is best for them and they decided UCF was our rival for the transition years.
But Who Cares? We will get a steady diet of Big 12 Texas schools, home and on the road, but just donât claim"Pez told you how it was going to be".
That is laughable.
He has NO PULL on conference schedulesâŠhe can barely schedule a quality Non Conference schedule. Look at who our peers are landing. USF recently landed a series with Alabama. Cincinnati just played Notre Dame last season. UCF has Florida coming up
USF can easily be scheduled by P5 schools due to them playing in an NFL stadium and being an easy win.
Cincinnati didnât get a home return game for playing Notre Dame last year.
Tulane used to get LSU to play them every other year in the past but we all know it was just a scrimmage for LSU at the Superdome.
UH normally gets the short end of the stick when getting P5s to play at TDECU.
Plus if any P5 team is looking for an easy win in Houston, they schedule Rice just like the Longhorns.
Iâm generally okay with our scheduling. It was terrible last year but that was a deliberate decision by leadership (I donât think just Pez). Reluctance to do 2-and-1 (as USF is with Bama) also limits our options, but that too was a deliberate decision and one I understand.
Weâre in a space where weâre too good to be an easy win but not high profile enough to get big programs to want to come visit us.
I donât understand the gnashing of teeth with the Big 12 making UCF our rival, they have squared off everyone else. Who cares? We have no leverage, have gotten used to playing them, and we are going to be counting the money. Move on!
Last night UCF beat Temple 70-13.
They might be a worthy opponent.
Sounds like the same thing you were spreading previously when you called everybody an idiot who didnât believe you about us going to the PAC 12, and that yours (source) was bigger and better than everyone elseâs.
We were not and are not going to the PAC.
Not sure why anyone ever believed or even conjectured otherwise.
As much as the older Coogs may want to see the Texas teams as our rivals, no traditional student was even close to being born the last time we shared a conference.
Yes, I would prefer a Texas school or schools as a permanent rival, if they assign them in that fashion.
If not, we could do a lot worse than UCF, which is huge, successful, in a similar position (when I think schools and football in Florida, I think of UF, FSU, and Miami before I get to UCF/USF/ FIU, etc). Also, exposure OUTSIDE of Texas wonât be a bad thing. Florida cranks out some pretty solid players, too.
THIS ^^^
âŠand we should worry more about US boosting our program (performance, smart coach hires, recruiting, facilities, increased fan support, etc.) and not going for a life line via increased attendance boosts by playing Texas Tech, TCU, & Baylor.
The reality is that those are castaway Texas Pf5 programs. Letâs try to build a âprogramâ more like Texas and Texas A&M. Texas A& M filled their stadium forâŠAppalachian State.
Letâs model themâŠand we have tons of work to do.
Are you kidding? I think all of the former SWC teams in the B12 hate us (and those not in the B12); some more than others. I know UT, BU, & TT do big time. TCU hasnât forgotten the drubbings we put on them. UT fans remember those beat downs we put on them also. As for the non B12 teams, do you think that aTm, Rice, and SMU donât hate us? Tamu wouldnât ever play us after we left the B12. TCU only played us when we were both in CUSA and they had to. Rice only plays us because we bring fans to their stadium.
Honestly at this point the main connection has less to do with the SWC and more to do with the fact that we actually know people who went to those schools (Especially Tech, but also the other two) and they are schools that have been relevant in the area for a long time. Itâs not the only factor (Iâm not itching to play Texas State) but itâs a significant one.
There was a lot I really liked about the AAC, but that was something that was missing. It is something the Big 12 had through all of its variations. If we are excluded from that of course itâs not the end of the world but would be extremely aggravating (potentially worse if itâs a hostile move, though I really donât think it is).
Obviously we do the best with what we can (no one ever suggested otherwise) but being fully integrated with the local universities that people across the state have been following for years is a much better situation for us and will make it a lot easier to reach out potential as it will draw the more casual Texas fans who pay significantly more attention to Texas Tech than UCF because of geography and history.
We never had a rivalry with TCU or Baylor. Texas Tech was a little bit more interesting back in the day, but I would not call them a rival. The only teams that moved the arrow for our fans were Texas, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. I couldnât care less if we ever play Texas again in any sport, or the Aggies either, for that matter. They never considered us rivals back when we played them, and looked down upon us as if we were beneath them. It is a new day, and we do not need them for anything. Plus, our stadium will smell much better when the game is over if we do not have to deal with any of their stinky degenerates. I am just happy that we are now in a position to get paid and build our athletic department into a national power in all sports.
