Red, there’s more than 20 years distance from a class that was in school with the SWC culture. Anyone after the class of 2000 has only stories or tangential experience of the SWC school days. Sometimes it’s hard to relate. When I was at A&M, nobody on campus talked about UH. Out of sight, out of mind. The excuse was always “it’s not in our best interest to play Houston”. I remember going up to CS in 04 to watch the Coog bball play A&M at Reed Arena in December. There were a few chirps as I waved the GVL polka dot towel in the stands that I bought from the Scout CoogFans site
I only despise Texas because of people I know who went there, the drunk ass Tech fans who wanted to get into a fist fight with me in 09 at Robertson, and the jerk, wealthy Frog alums who chanted “How about them Cougars” leaving the field in 04 Ft Worth.
There really should be a classic section devoted to history of rivals. All the bs should be aired out with references to what was in the newspapers, etc
I agree that UCF is headed up, up, and away. They have a lot going for them and they’re one of the most intriguing teams to me because of the massive upside they bring.
How about a battle for the Lunar Rock. Space City versus Cape Canaveral for who has the biggest space junk.
I realize the younger folks don’t have the same history as we older folks and maybe the younger folks at UT and TAMU don’t give UH a thought. But I remember and so does my daughter who was a Cougar Doll the last time we played at UT in 2002. The Dolls were not allowed to be on the sidelines during the game and had to stay under the stadium. After the game the UT students lined up and taunted the Dolls calling them whores and sluts and throwing beer at them. I will always remember that. I’ll bet the folks that were students at UT in those days remember that as well whether or not they will admit it. As far as I’m concerned UT would be a good bombing range for the military.
I don’t think the Big 12 gives a flip about who our rivalry is. Listen to me carefully, we need to be prepared for war in every sport. We will have no friends and get ready for all the Cougar high stuff to start up again.
Yeah and i have a hard time imagining that the Big 12 first year with Cincinnati in it, wouldn’t have WVU and Cincinnati playing each other. I dont figure that would happen.
