This is a P4 crowd

I would say at its peak probably 95%-98% of seats were occupied. But it’s also safe to assume that there was at least 1k people walking the concourse at any given time.

Intentional. Did not want to be censored . . . . . I’ve experienced it before . . . . .

Have you ever been to Austin for a FB game?

Have you ever watched a college football game that isn’t UH or UT? Chants happen all across the country. It’s a college football thing. Not a longhorn thing.

I totally agree with you, Johnny! TOOK LOTS OF PICTURES FROM THE SKY

So it’s “lets be different, like very body else?”

No it’s “Let’s do a fun chant that has to do with UH” and not worry about other schools.

It’s done in Fertitta all season long

And find something to actually get the crowd into making noise. Throwing GET LOUD up on the video board that never shows replays ain’t getting it done.

I find it weak. Football lacks enough crowd noise to make it make sense to me. Basketball much the same. I’ve never felt it was worth the cheerleaders efforts. My first experience with a similar cheer was in Austin in '63 - UT vs OSU. Ours is weak compared. JMHO

Crowd buy in on that one seems to me to be a little weak. Also, for me it just doesn’t hit. Seems forced if that makes sense, but to each his own.

I much more prefer the ‘C-O-U-G-A-R-S - Talking Bout the COUGARS!’ chant with the arms waiving and all. Seems more unique and a lot more fun IMHO.

My 2 cents.

I don’t remember if it was the football game or Montana Tech basketball game, but I heard a U of H chant. The only problem is it sounds just like the U of A that Arizona does. We need to kill that one. The H sounds sounds too much like an A.

Definitely the Montana Tech game. The U of H chant is a long time basketball exclusive chant

Well…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it then. It was just the first time I’d heard it however (or remember hearing it).

I’ll just think of it like other schools playing Eat em Up.

UH has tried the opposite sideline chants for 50 years. Same lame responses.

They used to do the opposite field Houston Cougars chants toward the end of halftime before the second half and people were still at concessions or in the bathroom so a lot of empty seats. The chants sounded pretty weak.

It’s like the 80’s and UH passed out pom poms like the SEC school fans use…it just didn’t stick.

They serve different purposes. The HOUSTON/COUGARS chant is basically an alarm clock to tell the crowd to warm up and start paying attention, while Womp Womp works best when it’s capitalizing on a big moment with the crowd rolling.

Before the game? Coming out of halftime? Starting back up after an injury? You want the split-sides chant.

Linebacker just flattened the QB? RB got his helmet popped off? 4th down stop? Bring out Womp Womp.

Also, while I have your attention, bring back Hustlin’.

We don’t have a united fanbase. A fanbase that is bought in. We have a lot of “We can’t do that here” fans and so things don’t get tried or they don’t work. During the blue game there were tons of red shirts in the stands, just because they refused to buy into what the school asked to do as a group. It was noticed and brought up on a fan site that I saw. This also applies to chants. And just general cheering during the game. Some even complain that fans stand during the game in front of them.

We sure do have a wine-and-cheese crowd for a school that can afford neither wine nor cheese.
