The Herman/Applewhite Era?!? As if beating Florida State, OU and Louisville are comparable to Army dropping 70 on us? Those are the same teams somehow?
Every one of our coaches since the year 2010 had bad losses.
Sumlin, Levine, Herman, Applewhite, and Holgorsen.
No college coach is going to win every time they are a favored team. Even Saban and Urban Meyer had their share of upsets and such.
I hate CDH too but we are stuck with him for at least 2 years.
We all had our meltdowns with each coach:
Sumlin: 2009 vs UTEP, 2011 vs Southern Miss
Levine: 2012 vs Texas State, 2014 vs UTSA, 2014 vs Tulane
Herman: 2015 vs UConn, 2016 vs Navy, 2016 vs SMU.
Applewhite: too many to name lol
Holgorsen: 2021 vs Tech, 2022 vs Tech, 2022 vs Kansas, 2022 vs Tulane, 2022 vs Tulsa
Herman never gave up 11 touchdowns to a 4-4 team.
Which brings up an interesting question. Which was more embarrassing? Applewhite giving up 70 to a 10-2 team in his second year? Or Dana giving up 77 to a 4-4 team his fourth year?
I don’t hate CDH and I hope he is successful for us in the Big 12 because then that means UH is successful. With that said facts like wins against P5 teams before and after him and number of players drafted before and after him don’t lie. Also, F-bombs lobbied at fans don’t lie either nor does parting with your 50 td QB due to him not being the “right fit for our offense” nor does the big season he had being almost all wins against teams with losing records. These are all FACTS. Some people refuse to criticize him or Fertitta when clearly warranted - I guess because they think the Fertitta well could dry up or something. I don’t know.
He never coached a defense period
Clever maneuvering. Let me rephrase it:
Herman’s DC never gave up 11 TDs to a 4-4 team.
Herman was never on the sidelines when his team
gave up 77 points to a 4-4 team
The trying hard is impressive, not really effective though.
But Herman loss to SMU by more points
Losing on the road in sh*tty weather conditions to a 9 win Navy team isn’t a crappy loss.
Come on now folks.
That Army loss was WAAAAAY worse than last year’s SMU loss.
We at least scored 63 against SMU.
Army…OTOH…that loss absolutely took EMBARRASSMENT to a whole new level!
I re-watched the Peach Bowl. Remarkable job of coaching offense by someone. I suspect it was Herman rather than Applewhite. We had no chance of running the ball against a national Top 5 defense, yet he put points on the board with quick throws to the outside, quarterback runs and a fair share of gadget plays. (quick throws to the trips formation on the outside with an ineligible receiver on the inside of the trips, really odd, but effective).
People complain about the loss at UConn, but forget that we played without 5 of our top 6 offensive linemen and played a third string quarterback who was a WR earlier in the season. Then our best defender, Elandon Roberts got ejected on a targeting call in the first half.

The trying hard is impressive, not really effective though.
So you’re a 77 Club guy?

Losing on the road in sh*tty weather conditions to a 9 win Navy team isn’t a crappy loss.
Considering I was at the game, we had a decent lead until Ward threw the pick 6 and gave them momentum.
Neither navy or smu weren’t very good that year. Those two losses were really bad and our team looked unprepared. That has been one of the knocks on Herman is he prepares much differently for the big games than the other teams.
Plus he actually insulted SMU prior!
Hermans’s defense never gave up 77 points to SMU.

Herman: 2015 vs UConn, 2016 vs Navy, 2016 vs SMU.
Applewhite: too many to name lol
This was exactly my point. Applewhite was the absolute worst coach we have had since Helton.

At least CDH can call better offensive plays than Applewhite and Levine, which is sadly the only clear advantage CDH has over the other 2.
Not exactly. Herman motivated his team. He got the national media attention on our program.
LeBush and Apple Dumplin were demoralizing.
