NCAA
I would think NIL could be a difference maker
Yes it is for all schools as Bulto said….when I played in the 90’s between baseball and academics I had close to 100% scholarships.
We varied maybe 27-28 on the roster each year.
Quality over quantity.
In fairness to Lance he needs to be given a few years……I think a lot of coaches were familiar with and comfortable with Houston Baptist……the name change should not be a big deal but it still gives pause……hard to explain.
To me it seems that since his wife’s illness CTW has lost the fire in the belly. If that is true then he needs to admit it and quit. if he still has the fire then he needs to prove it by turning this around now. There is not one phase of the game we are good at. And as far as pitching goes, the song Wild Thing comes to mind.
I absolutely haven’t seen any fire since 2 years ago. Pezman surely has had alums/donors talking in his ear.
You could see the decline starting as soon as Coach Anderson left. I believe He had more to do with our success than Coach Whitting. Change should have been made several years ago. Baseball is currently looking like the Dickey basketball years. Even the promotions and between innings entertainment has gotten worse each year.
That’s actually a really good comparison.
Yeah there was no fan appreciation whatsoever in the fan appreciation spring game. Like 3 people walking around handing out adult xl shirts to kids. Low, low energy.
My kids walked right by the coach numerous times after the game, not a hello, did yall have fun, nothing.
To me a little bit can go a long way to impressionable minds, but a little bit isnt even taking place.
Oh and 5 hit batsmen, jeez!
Whits a good guy and been here long time, helluva of a Coog…but…a change of scenery and new direction/fresh approach is well past due
There’s a certain gent up in Columbus, Ohio that can turn this ship around pronto
As someone that was a student during that 2014-2017 run. This is depressing to read.
At least Dickey could recruit. Had Thomas, Young and House stayed Sampson would have inherited a tourney team.
Next baseball coach will be taking over a sunken ship
Maybe, but we’re never far from turning it around here, especially now.
An old boss’s kid tried to make the 35 man roster at UT. 27 or so get to suit up or get some funds but an extra eight get lockers and get to wear the uniform. Catch bullpen or something like that. Son was apparently the 36th guy (aren’t they always?).
We going to get a new coach or what? We are going to get absolutely throttles in the Big 12 in baseball.
The good news Big is that you can turn around baseball quicker than any other sport IMO….may take a few years to establish the culture you want to have for people take notice the “program” is back….similar to what CKS and staff did……
But if you put the “right” guy in there….I can tell you the showcase coaches and the high school coaches will immediately take notice……it will spread like wild fire and coaches that had a bone to pick with UH for whatever reason are suddenly willing to talk/meet….you can be back in the tournament pretty quickly.
Yeah I can see where a good coach could bring in some portal arms and bats and be competitive.
Pitching would have to be top priority.
Noticed the Minute Maid tournament is going on. I thought this was something the Coogs played in every year, but has not played in it since 2019? Did we get kicked out or did we leave and decide to do other things?
I noticed the team went 2-13 from 2014-2019, so maybe we decided to get out of there?
Yes, you just answered all the questions in one swoop. They played horrible at MMP and CTW commented on it couple of yrs ago that they were going to try something different.
They are currently working on owning The Rio Grande Valley area bragging rights .
Stay tuned.
What he tried different isn’t working ![]()
