UH Baseball Schd & Season-- 2024

I assume that’s a joke after giving up 13 runs. We seem to have recruited some hard throwers but even the announcers said not to walk guys in the bottom half of the order.

We threw Chris Stuart in relief of Wright last Tuesday vs. HCU and he had three Ks in 2.0 IP. At least we didn’t throw Murray last night who was strong vs. Cincy last weekend.

Yep. It’s like Rooney & Bunn are still with us in spirit.

Yes, a joke.

Disturbing that virtually NONE of the pitchers have developed at all!!!
I know if I was a parent I would not let my kid come here( especially if they were a pitcher).

Between the arm injuries and the lack of development it’s pathetic.

i will attend a game again when Todd Whitting is no longer the head coach. this is a shitshow. complete waste of time and money to keep supporting this program at it’s current state.

Came home from my kids practice last night and we watched the first two innings. Couldnt get past all the wild pitches and gave up.

It could be a lot worse, Aggies are good.

Well if TW is not gone after this year it will be Moms, Dads, girlfriends, an occasional grandparent and little brother at the stadium….

After a short time yesterday, I had to turn it off.

Pitching and fielding were too God Awful.

Not sure what sort of buyout this HC has, but Tillman and Yokubaitis had better start setting aside the cash to pay it.

Change is necessary.

Well done.

Hitting is there cept 8/9.
Tre Jones is close 2 average B12 hitter but cant hit high in strike zone.
Nickens just limited at plate.

(vs Big12)

Way 2 many innings from 8+ ERAs.

As I said earlier, why in the hell is Nickens still starting in CF? It is a complete joke. Schoenvogel should start there on every day that ends in Y. I don’t know if he could have kept up with his average, but he certainly proved that he should be the starting CF. I swear the only reason Nickens is playing is because he was a Bandito. He loves Banditos!!

Can you post the Big 12 pitching stats?

I get all that. But one game doesn’t take away from the state of the program. There is more buzz at the local little league park than on Cullen Blvd

When you look at those stats it tells me TW either plays favorites or he doesn’t know sh-t about his team.

The best hitters started the season on the bench and look at the guys that have not performed! They were all starters for the first month of the season.

You telling me he went through the entire fall and missed on more than HALF his starters?!

Get outta here……just non-sense.

And the pitching is an absolute joke….and I am not talking about the players.
The players had enough talent to be on a D-1 roster….
They have not been developed AT ALL!

You always expect to have a couple of guys struggle….but when 3/4 the team has an ERA above 7 it’s not the players, it’s the coaches.

I said way back when they hired the new pitching coach it was not a good hire….most said it had to be better than Bunn. :smirk:
Bunn needed to be gone but this wasn’t the guy……it was a desperate move that had no chance of working.

I guarantee this a$$ clown is just another guy that stands in the pen and offers nothing useful….just coach speak.
There is a big part of pitching that is the mental side as well as strategy.
It’s not just physical/mechanics.

With the numbers this staff has put up it is clear they have gotten nothing.

Most of this team will hit the portal and I don’t blame them.

Ohio State’s team ERA is 5.70 and 23% of IP are from pitchers with ERA above 7.00 (actually 5.60 as well).

UH’s overall ERA IS 5.03 but much higher in conference.

Maybe UH can recruit better talent than Ohio State, where Sean Allen is pitching coach.

You should be able to recruit much better players to UH, that is a given.

I can pull up a couple of stats too.

In conference which is what matters Ohio St. has a 4.28 ERA which is 2nd.

In conference UH has a 6.55 ERA which is last.

UH has an RPI of 95
OSU has an RPI of 57

Against Quad 1 OSU is 4-3
Against Quad 1 UH is 0-8

Your stat that OSU has 23% of innings pitched by pitchers with an ERA above 7 is actually a good stat for them.
It means 77% of their pitchers are most likely getting the job done and maybe the ERA is inflated by 1/4 of the guys.

I’m not sure what you were even trying to say with your post.

Was it to argue that UH had better coaches than Sean Allen? If it was it failed miserably.

If that wasn’t the point , then what was?

On a Roll today!

Based on history, I believe that Allen is a strong pitching coach. I looked at overall ERAs because I couldn’t find their conference stats. It’s also important to look at SOS which is something you pulled with overall RPI comparison.

Our records are similar but they’re a game better (19-18 vs 20-21 for UH) and then Ohio State’s SOS must be better given the RPI difference. We have multiple starters out with injuries so the final stretch of games will be challenging. You showed that tOSU has improved its ERA in conference vs OOC. Maybe OOC SOS is comparable to Big 10 but came earlier in the schedule and therefore showing improvement? They play a rather solid OOC.

I’m just trying to see if Sean Allen is the right guy or a head coach at a lower budget school in Texas.

There is much more that goes into whether or not he is the right coach for UH.

Comparing our pitching vs Ohio St. pitching is not something that would sway me one way or the other.

I know that Sean was named “Assistant coach of the year” and then was used as a scapegoat at UT.

I know from having spoken to him a few times that he knows baseball……I know having spoken to many “former players” that they liked playing for him.

He has put in his time and is way more qualified to run a D-1 program than some guys that are currently in that role.

……and he has tons of local ties and from what I know myself and have heard from others is that these are positive relationships….

There are several guys that are qualified to do the job but I can’t think of even ONE that is more qualified than Sean.

Tough to make a comparison using a Northern school.
Even the $ rich cold weather teams only win in streaks.
The better baseball facilities n CBB cant make up for training indoors.
The hand pain from a cold bat gets old quick.

Inability to self scout has been a huge issue for a long time.

The recent young pitchers are big time college prospects w good offers yet usually awful vs good teams.

Much crying last year that LaCalamento, etc was hurt.
(The usual excuses why it didn’t work out)
Is he even a good AAC pitcher ? Horrible v Big 12.

ERAs would be worse cept horrible fielding made for unearned runs.
Pitcher was getting shelled regardless. Multiple guys who can barely get an out.
