That would be great!

Please, just make it stop!

His buyout isn’t some mystery
 very much Open Public Records.

Edit: if he’s let go b4 Aug 1 2024, they will owe him aprox 400k . If after Aug 1st 2024, will go down to approx 320-325k. Not chump change w the lack of revenue that Baseball program is creating at the moment. If none of the prominent Baseball Donor Alums want to cough up the $$ or want him gone, he will be back.

No direct knowledge from anyone within UH but my guess he gets 2 yrs minimum to make dent in BIG12 landscape of College Baseball. Uncle Tilman can’t bail out all the problems. N UH is hurting across the board w Athletics Revenue. Be that way for while until the bigger $$ start kicking in from BIG12 Payout. N by then it is my opinion that the Schools will be paying the Athletes in some way, not through NIL. That’s the direction things are headed to.

Out!

Yes, he’s coming back because of the buyout. It’s been decided.

He sure didn’t sound like he is concerned based on his dugout interviews in the three game series this weekend on espn+.

Well if UH can’t pay 300-400k to get a burned out horrible coach out then just shut down the program.

Its an embarrassment.

Good info. They aren’t paying $400k, or $325k, to get rid of CTW. The key time to change was either 2021 or last year when the contract expired. Being ranked #107 and third worst in the Big 12 isn’t causing alarm bells with an administration concerned about money and the two “front porch” programs.

#127 Baylor made a switch and the current guy is bad in year two.

Fans made it seem like CTW didn’t have a buyout.

After two bad seasons, Rayner Noble was fired with three years left on his contract. The buyout was up to $430,000.
After an incredibly horrible season followed by two bad seasons, Todd Whitting was given a three-year contract extension.

I think its because some are still nostalgic of when UH was last successful, which ironically was Todd Whitting

Thank you for remembering this HH.

And what does 430K equate to now? ( and that was what? Conference USA, American?
So the 300-400K in 2024 should be considered nothing
.this is the Big 12.
This is what we all wanted, gotta quit acting like we are small time.

The old saying “there are two kinds of coaches, those that have been fired and those that will be fired”.

All coaches know the deal.

High school coaches make a fraction of the money as college coaches and they know you are only as valuable as your last season.

TW is a big boy
.he’s been robbing UH the last five years now.

Whitting’s only success was that he successfully hired Frank Anderson.

Within a year of Mack Rhoades coming to UH in 2010, he fired Penders, VB, golf and baseball coaches. Rhoades focuses on non-rev sports as well as front porch sports. Dickey was a bust at MBB. VB coach was a success but she left after two years at UH and has been HC at Cinci ever since. Dismuke hasn’t returned UH to its former glory but he’s been at UH since his hiring. CTW had some success in the 2010s but none since Covid, or Frank Anderson as pitching coach.

Rhoades replaced the baseball coach at Baylor but the Bears are rated lower than UH. Maybe he’ll make another change in the next year or two. He has kept a HOF coach in Scott Drew but let all time great WBB coach leave. Football better make a bowl or Mack possibly has his backup HC in place in Gary Patterson.

Whitting’s buyout info in this article: UH head baseball coach signs new contract ahead of first Big 12 season - The Cougar (thedailycougar.com)
The relevant paragraph:
“If Whitting is terminated before Aug. 1 2024, he will be owed 40% of his remaining base salary and 33% before the same date in 2025, paid monthly. In the final year of his contract, Whitting will be paid $100,000 or “an amount equal to the prorated Base Salary amount remaining,” whichever is less if terminated before Aug. 1, 2026. The head coach will also receive an incentive of $40,000 for every year he is retained.”

His base salary is $325,000. Before 8/1/24: $650,000 x 40% = $260,000. Drops to $214,000 on 8/1/24.

Penders didn’t get fired. He resigned after a tourney season.

Lol

he has 3 yrs left after this season
 signed 3 yr extension, he was already signed for 2024 campaign that is just completing. So 3 yrs @ 325k x 3 = 975k x 40% = 390k , after Aug 1st – 975k x 33% = 321k, etc. Easy peasy.

The previous contract expired after the 2023 season.

Thank you for clearing that up for us
.i didn’t think it was as high as another poster said it was

I remember being told there were some conditions that lowered it but was not sure what they were.

Let me go back at look at it again. But i looked at it from couple different media resources b4 I posted the info above. If what you’re saying is the case , that means starting Aug 2023 through Feb 2024 when 3 yr extension was offered & signed, he was w/o a Contract for the window of Aug 2023- Feb 2024, I don’t see that happening.
