We will never get another Yeoman

The world has changed A person stayed with a firm their entire career. Loyalty worked both ways.

Same with university.

You know who seems to keep finding good coaches one after another. BYU. Why we can’t do the same?

Respectfully disagree. That is a bad business strategy. Essentially what you are saying is “…if you are successful at UH, you will be able to find a better job…” You don’t say the quiet part out loud.

I was being a bit facetious there lol

And we bought out our current coach after only two seasons to be able to hire him … and then we gave him a four year contract extension.

I think I would still take Dana in that situation.

The fact I’m not certain I’d take Dana is sad.

Let me tell you something…

Every school is a stepping stool job.

Unless you are an NFL Team or one of Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, USC… you are a stepping stool program

That isn’t a bad a thing. We are on a level playing field with every other team outside those programs I mentioned.

We don’t need someone to come and stay 10+ years, we need someone who can come in and WIN.

Case in point

Dana numerous times insisted that UH was not a stepping stone for him

If you’re hiring a new coach every couple of years you’ll never build a solid, winning program. Miami was about the only school that was able to, but even they eventually crashed. There’s no reason UH can’t find someone who will do for the program what Whittingham has done for Utah, Gundy for Oklahoma State, Calhoun for Air Force, etc.

I’m told CDH is that guy for us - he just needs a few more years. I assume as a good “Cougar” that I should put on my red poly glasses and sit back and take the Ls along the way?

You guys probably should have snagged former Sam Houston, and current Tulane, coach Willie Fritz when you had the chance. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.

Not seeing much to indicate he’s that guy. Unless things turn around drastically, we should probably be in the market for a new coach.

Willie Fritz at Tulane since 2016:
16: 4-8
17: 5-7
18: 7-6
19: 7-6
20: 6-6
21: 2-10
22: 12-2

Dana Holgorsen since 2019:
19: 4-8
20: 3-5
21: 12-2
22: 8-5

Please tell me how Fritz is that much better than Dana on paper considering we hired Dana in 2019. If Willie went 2-10 at UH, everybody would agree that he should be shown the door immediately.

True, but they are about to be 9-3 or 8-4 and we are going to invert that at 3-9 or 4-8. He wouldn’t be my first, second, or even third choice but I’d be shocked if he wasn’t an upgrade over our current HC. If we went established G5 HC he’d likely be my guy or at least on the very short list.

You have to consider what the programs were before they got to their schools.

The 10 years before Holgy UH’s record was: 86-44 (66% winning) with bowl games in 8 of 10 years.

The 10 years before Fritiz Tulane’s record was: 34-88 (28% winning) with one measly bowl game and winning season.

Night and day. From the beginning of CDH’s tenure he has talked like we were Tulane before he got here. Nothing but excuses and deflections from that man from the very beginning when anything good wasn’t accomplished under his watch when everyone before him did better with fewer resources.

Plus Willie has shown he can elevate long term from what was before him. He brought GA Southern into D1 FBS and had 2 winning seasons right away and at Tulane he has had them at .500 or better in 5 of the last 6 years (yes they will win at least 6 this year). CDH, has taken programs that the 10 years prior to him in WVU and UH were very solid and brought them down a notch and really ticked off the fans of those schools that were willing to see and call out the underperformance of their program under his leadership.

Given the right situation Fritz can win anywhere, has shown that over and over. With the resources we have over Tulane no telling how Fritz what have done, but have feeling way better than Dana

The guy you really want is Jamey Chadwell. I have followed him since he made a winner out of Charleston Southern. Yes, Charleston Southern in FCS. The guy wins everywhere he goes. He is already strong out of the gate at Liberty.

There are so many components to finding a coach. Vision, communication, clear background, recruiting, system, staffing, motivation, etc. There’s a reason schools hire search firms. You need people that dig deep in research. We might not have heard of the guy that’s gonna be the next coach.

Why is it okay to give Fritz excuses, but when anyone says “Well Coach Prime did it in 1 season!!”, then the excuse is that Prime is a unicorn

He does have a conference championship, a NY6 bowl win, and a top 10 finish. And in his 12-2 season, he won 3 games vs ranked teams. That’s 2 more ranked wins in 1 season than CDH’s entire time at UH

That’s why I specifically said “considering Dana was hired in 2019”

There’s nothing that Willie Fritz has done at Tulane between 2016-2019 that would’ve suggested he would be a better hire than what Dana did at WVU.

Just like the post I responded to, hind sight is 20/20. To suggest that because Fritz had one great season in 2022, and that somehow justifies we should’ve hired him in 2019 doesn’t make any sense
