Which Coogs are coming back?

its not over, yet.

there are LOTS of reasons why a kid like Jamal would run it back.

I hope you’re right. Maybe between NIL and his relationship with CKS, he’ll return.

I just see him as an “unfinished business” type of player.

I know he will have multiple avenues to go pro if he wants, although I dont think it will be 1st round NBA level stuff.

He can make a ton of NIL money and live a very good life for 1 more year at UH.

our entire team can come back for one more year and we’ve got incoming players as well. the likelihood of that happening very slim, but just imagine

I don’t agree with this. Our 9 man rotation, full-strength, in 2022 was

Sasser
Shead
White
Mark
Carlton
Edwards
Taze
Roberts
Chaney

This year full-strength it was

Shead
Cryer
Sharp
Roberts
Francis
Dunn
TA
Tugler
Wilson/Ramon

This year’s team was nowhere near as deep or balanced as 2022, full-strength. It may have been better, but that would be almost entirely based on Shead being arguably the best player in college basketball. The difference is particularly stark when comparing benches. Not a single guy on our bench who could get a bucket, whereas Edwards and Taze could both score when called upon.

The defense this year was definitely better, though. I am speaking a bit more to the offense.

Other schools have 15, even 17, man rosters.

You simply cannot have more than 13 scholarships.

The others can receive Academic Scholarships and/or NIL deals.

We can return this entire 13 man roster, then add the 2 Freshmen.

Acting like people should play for free is, ummm, interesting

If Jamal, Cryer, and our bugs all came back, then we’d have to be a pre-season Top Two.

So bed bugs would come w this deal.

The team can only have 13 on scholarships and 15 total. We have 13 on scholarship now and 2 coming in (Miller and McCarty) so everyone can’t return unless two go off scholarship and stay just on NIL money. That is possible but unlikely in my opinion.

Personally, if I had to pick the 2 to drop, it would be Dunn and Wilson. We need depth in the front court, so I would keep Lath. That would give us Francis, McFarland, Tuggler, Lath, and possibly Roberts. We have seen how lack of depth has hurt us the last couple of years and we need a dependable front court.

Senior leadership is important and the only guys that will be seniors next year, except maybe a couple using COVID year of eligibility, are Francis and Walker. I don’t see either of those leaving.

Sampson will have some hard decisions to make, but he will come up with whatever is best for the team. I hope we don’t have to redshirt anyone next season; it would have been nice if McFarland and Jefferson were able to get game experience and able to come in when our injuries mounted.

I guess we just have to wait and see. I’m not sure when the decisions will be made, but I would suspect not long after the Final Four in order to let anyone going into the portal to have a better chance to be picked up.

LJ coming back would be huge. It’s crazy how people take his sweet stroke for granted. Y’all want to go back to the Villanova game? Our leading scorer, highest 3 point shooter, highest free throw percentage. If you took LJ off our team and put him back on Baylor’s we don’t win in Waco. They actually probably would have blown our doors off. Him returning would be a big piece in being a title contender again next year

Sorry did I say anything about LJ

Didn’t mean to reply to you

They can have more than 15 on the roster. Sampson hasn’t done that and probably won’t, but this year might tempt him.

Au contrair mon ami. You just have to Google it like I did and here is what I pulled up.

In NCAA college basketball , a team can have a maximum of 15 players on its roster. This includes both scholarship and walk-on players. However, it’s important to note that not all colleges fully utilize their roster spots12. During a college basketball game, there can be up to 13 players on the bench2. The NCAA Division I men’s and women’s teams are limited to giving out 13 scholarships to players, which means at least two players on the roster will be non-scholarship players, commonly referred to as “walk-ons” 2. And remember, during the game, only five players from each team are legally allowed on the court at a time3.

Go look at Colorado’s roster. Google isn’t your friend in this case. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you find an actual NCAA link that addresses it, I’d be interested in seeing that.

Yeah I never could find an actual NCAA source on this but it’s clear from boxscores that these websites aren’t correct

The three roster players who are the most likely to be recruited over are Dunn, Wilson and Lath. UH needs to upgrade those positions. Even if those players improve over the offseason, it limits UH’s ceiling in the NCAA Tournament.

Here is the Colorado roster; there are 14 players and doesn’t say which is a walk-on. So, what is your point?

CU definitely had 17 during the season. Other schools did, as well.

Whatever man, if you can show me anything to support your claim I will believe you. Otherwise I am following all the rules I can find on line that say otherwise.
