Which of these lost Houston Restaurants did you eat at?

When did the Hempstead Inn close?

That was some great family style cooking!

Anyone dine a lot off Shepherd and West Gray back in the 90s? My wife and I were trying to remember the name of a restaurant near that corner. It was across Gray from the Chili’s near that intersection and you walked through an open air part of the building to get to it. We worked downtown at the time and would drive over to that area for Chili’s, Birraporreti’s, etc but couldn’t remember the name of this other restaurant.

One’s a Meal?

I don’t think that is it but I appreciate you giving it some thought. I don’t recall eating at One’s A Meal.

Loved that place. Lots of post drinking meals there, but that is way east of Shepherd.

That’s my hood, and I know what you speak, but can’t recall. More details might jolt the memory.

Wan’t that a Laugh Stop?

I will try to find a satellite view of the area so I can try to pinpoint where it was. It’s been over 20 years since I worked downtown so it is getting a little foggy.

You are correct, Birraporettis, LaUgh Stop, there was also a Black Eyed Pea there. A bar next to Laugh Stop that had couches and pillows with no name. Years earlier there was a Weingarten supermarket there too.

Marfreless. It was quite the place in 70-80’s. Those couches got quite the workout.

Thank you, Marfreless, how could I forget.

The “new” Marfreless has very little in common with the original. You could always tell where you stood with a date when you suggested going to Marfreless. :sunglasses:

Was it XIT?

Anyone remember The Great Caruso on Westheimer near Briar Park?

It was a high end gourmet Italian Restaurant that also featured a fancy stage with Broadway style entertainment nightly!

Also, has Magic Island been reopened? That was a great “date night” venue for magic shows and a great buffet!

Papadeaux in Kemah, was a dang shame they never rebuilt it after hurricane

Pappamias was amazing food off unity and Richmond. I don’t know if it was mentioned but it was fine Italian food done with extra butter and seasoning.

Sorry Law, Magic Island is dead. After reports in 2018 of a possible rebirth after planned repairs, the club’s ownership tried to get the property owners to fix the building damaged by the fire. It’s a shame it didn’t work out.

Burger Mart on Edgebrook, near the Gulf Freeway. The Pizza Yoint on Old Galveston Rd. Gogi’s Pizza on the Gulf Freeway. A German Restaurant, I was a little kid, so the name escapes me, way south on the Gulf Freeway.
