Which of these lost Houston Restaurants did you eat at?

Tia Maria’s is still around and has very good food and GREAT prices.

A number of, if not all, Texas Tumbleweeds became Pecos Grill. Our TT was on the north side of Jester just east of Ella, and later became Pecos. The location was also a Svedenhaus, or Sveden House, and all you can eat place, but I can’t remember if it was before or after the steakhouses.

Cafe Adobe on Westheimer off Shepherd was a favorite of my whole family.

You might be from my neck of the woods. Loved Don José. Had three or four jobs that were close enough to go there for lunch. Tony’s was OK, but not my favorite. I preferred the place in the next block that used to be Slater Martin’s. Tia Maria’s was OK. There used to be a Chinese place a few doors down that had a good buffet.
Bubba’s? The one on Wescott?
The Chuck Wagon on 34th became Hump’s, for the owner Humphrey. His daughter was married to Craig Reynolds of Reagan and Astro’s fame.

I recall something similar in Pasadena (on Spencer Highway?) What I remember is eating with my grandpa at a place that I thought was called Smorgasbord, but maybe I got the name wrong. And yes, it was where the old Texas Tumbleweeds was.

It was definitely after Texas Tumbleweeds. If I had to put a date to it, I’m thinking it was mid to late 80s.

Casablanca, eat with your hands with a gorgeous lady at your side. Billy Gibbons giving you the high five. Pretty cool.

Ha ha, yes Marfreless. Turned into a chill out/make out lounge at night. Had some good times there.

Did any of you guys eat at Matt Garner BBQ on W. Gray? The boss was an elderly black guy who carried a pistol in his back pocket! His wife ran the cash register and they would constantly argue! But the bbq was great! I think the place burned down in the late seventies.

Le Givrals near midtown, I used to be able to walk there from my work. Best pho and banh mi and so cheap!

Thank G0d. I want to get a heart attack from eating at Goodson’s, not from finding out that they closed. LOL

Goodson’s is still open

Re-read my post.

The Richmond strip had some great food. The pappas family had an Italian restaurant down near unity and Richmond. Papamias are as amazing. Between there and the old chuys on Richmond there was kingfish market. It wasn’t bad, but he made ridiculous commercials. He also made royalties for years off of Joe’s Crab Shack from when he sold to Tillman.

Also mamas cafe off westheimer was amazing. When I was in the industry it was the best place to go late night after shifts. Bar was great, food was good. Good times.

Anyone remember Doneraki’s on Westheimer? Loved that place. Great quail.

Also, the Kim Son on Westheimer was a favorite stomping ground.

I went to Lee High in the 80’s and we used to skip class and go eat at Mama’s.

Their cheese broccoli casserole…I also honed my golden tee skills there many a late night.

Got married at Vargos, Cortez Meat Market was on Alabama, in Shepherd- Kirby area, then moved to 1512 W Alabama in 1996, then to Shepherd Drive and closed.
Log Cabin had fried chicken, out 59 north, so did the Windswept Inn.

Tony Mandola’s Gulf Coast Seafood Was in that center.

Loved that place! Was sad when they moved to Waugh and ended up shutting down

Our go to now is Eugene’s, similar menu and is great. Eugene’s used to be Dantons in the old Chelsea Market at 59 & Montrose and moved to Welch St probably 5 years ago.
