Willie Fritz Lifetime Contract

This Fritz team would make the 24 team playoff.

They said on the Cat’s show a couple weeks back that they are working on an extension and to expect something this week.

Put up or shut up? Disagree.

If Holgersen was still here, it would be applicable, but not to Fritz.

Barring injury to key personnel, it’s reasonable to expect a 10-2 regular season. It won’t be easy, but possible.

Cincy is winless on the road. West Virginia has lost two home games.

Thus far, our 2 losses were to 2 ranked teams by a total of 10 points. Both games were winnable.

Take the FG in the 1stQ; insert a blocking back to prevent the fumble, then it’s reasonable to speculate a win at Utah

not to mention a two point conversion at TTU that missed by inches to tie the game.

We have a HIGHLY competitive team representing UH and we were a couple of sideline decisions away from a win at Utah.

At some point we need to realize that Weigman won’t be here next season.
We cannot afford to miss the 24 team playoff next year.

I believe that CWF can do it but he has to be able to win against top 10 teams consistently.

Let’s start with winning those games occasionally and work towards doing it consistently. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you’re beating Top 10 teams consistently, then you’re a perennial national championship contender. That’s a great aspirational goal, but I don’t see it as an expectation.

I think you are correct but some of you are missing an integral part about this.
Instead of even arguing about a lifetime contract let’s put our heads together and realize what HCWF and his Coaching staff have done since he got here.
holgorsen gutted our program, gutted it and we are still paying him.
Let’s be frank here. I know it from good and reliable sources that Willie Fritz could have been hired instead of Holgorsen. This was a critical, critical mistake that set up back at the worst possible time. With Fritz at the helm we would have entered the BIG12
ORGANIZED as a program. We all saw how HCWF rebuilt this program. Instead of “that ship has sailed” he went to work, hard work. I keep writing it but I truly believe we are this close to be an elite program. Getting an extension with more NIL and sponshorship money is paramount for us.
Question:
What alternative some of you want?

What are the choices?

Great question. The obvious ones will the Oregon State HC and others that have done well these last two seasons as a G5 HC or Power 4 assistants.
IMO HCWF is the perfect fit for us. You know some HC’s in their later years seem to be pretty “stubborn” this has never been the case with Willie. He truly trusts his Assistants. That for me is the key to his success. He believes in a certain offense and defense and so far both have performed. I am seeing a team progressing from last season. That is huge in today’s football landscape. I really did not think we would match up well against Utah but we did.
We clearly do not have the money that Okie State has that got 55 new players.
If Fritz was not so tied to Houston he would have already been approached by the richest programs. I have no doubts about it even at his age.

Yall know if we don’t make the CFP by at least next season some of yall are going to be calling for his firing.

Just looking on paper right now, Tulane got to the playoffs before Fritz did.

I bet we will open up the season as a top 20 team next year so the expectations are going to be there.

I will be shocked if we do not enter the season in the top 15.

What happened once they got there? It’s inevitable that we will make the playoffs at some point in the new format. Hopefully when that happens we’re not a one and done.

Yeah

The powers that be in administration have certainly made decisions that (in hindsight) can be deemed as stalling (or even damaging) the trajectory of the UH brand & football program.

Ex. Hiring Major Applewhite instead of Lane Kiffin
Hiring Dana Holgorsen instead of CWF.

But tbf - any hire is a gamble and at the time other things were prioritized
for instance, there are rumours that Fertitta didn’t like Kiffin’s wild character & the UH Administration feared he’d leave us just like Herman.

On CWF’s side - at the time, he had a losing record with Tulane, iirc, and Fertitta alledgedly wanted to send a message by “poaching” a P5 HC in Dana Holgorsen (it also helps that they seemed to be drinking buddies, so connections help hehe).

UH has it’s signature non-conference P4 games in 2027 and 2028, LSU and Oklahoma, respectfully. It is after 2028 that needs work, and UH needs to cancel Boise St. in 2030 and 2031.

SEC seems willing, but it would be interesting to get an upper tier B1G school in a home-and-home, especially since the B1G has publicly agreed to require its schools to schedule at least one P4 non-conference game a year, once the expanded 24 team CFP starts.

Let Fritz focus on getting to the playoffs in 2027.

In the last 60 years, Mississippi State is the only SEC school to have a home and home with us.

We had one and dones roadies with Florida, Georgia and Tennessee and 2 for 1s with Ole Miss and Alabama.

Disclaimer:
All of this is based on my fading memory.

Vanderbilt came to TDECU in 2015 but we didn’t have a return game to Nashville.

Forgot about that one.

When that first game and you’ll be in great shape.

Why cancel the Boise games? That a fun match up.
